Our Collections
The Museum of Vertebrates manages four collections, one for each of the four traditionally recognized major groups of vertebrates: fish, reptiles and amphibians, birds, and mammals.
Work in recent decades has highlighted that the traditional vertebrate grouping can be somewhat misleading. For instance, birds are actually more recently related to the reptilian group of crocodiles then crocodiles are to other reptiles. However for practical and traditional reasons we still use these classic groupings for research and to manage our collections.
